YMCA Camp Immokalee’s Counselor in Training Program provides older campers the chance to experience the fun and magic of camp while developing skills to make them better leaders or even future counselors.
The CIT program is designed to train those who are ready to take on new challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities at camp. CIT’s work with campers assisting staff in cabins, activity areas, and evening activities. They have additional responsibilities around camp including dishes, special service projects, and special program development. Participants grow their leadership skill through constant constructive feedback.
CIT’s also spend time in daily workshops led by the CIT Coordinator teaching communication, leadership, problem solving, and cooperation. The CIT program enhances interpersonal and communication skills while fostering independence and self-awareness. Participants have the opportunity to place the needs of others ahead of their own, share what they are learning, and be a good role model for younger campers.
